Cattleyas, the 'Queen of Orchids' belong to a group which is the most flamboyant and colourful
of all orchids.

There are about 65 species of cattleyas, which are native to the tropical Americas. They are epiphytes, meaning that they live on the bark of trees, but they are not parasites—they live on nutrients from the air. Usually they are found in the tops of tall trees in moist to wet forests. Cattleyas are “sympodial”, that is, having long horizontal stems from which new.

vertical growths appear, and they have large cylindrical pseudobulbs, swollen areas of the stem for water storage.

Cattleyas originated in Central and South America with cousins coming form the Caribbean and
Florida.

Cattleyas are one of the most showiest and most rewarding to grow.

Light requirements are 1500-2000 foot-candles bright filtered light with no direct sun.

Leaves should be light green in color, stiff and leathery in texture.

A Cattleya species (wild) native to Central America. Has been used in many hybrids to produce
yellow petals, and in others to produce a throat richly-veined in purple & gold.
